Remembering a Life of Compassion, Service and Inspiration
On 5 October 2009, we lost a very special person, Fr. John (Giovanni Abbiati), who suddenly left us following a tragic road accident.
Seventeen years have passed, but his memory and his vision continue to live on in the hearts of the people whose lives he touched.
Fr. John believed in people. He believed in dignity, opportunity, solidarity and the power of communities to build a better future. His commitment, kindness and dedication continue to inspire us in everything we do.
At BaSE, we continue to walk in his footsteps — carrying forward the values he stood for and working to create opportunities for disadvantaged communities, particularly through the skills, creativity and strength of our artisan producers.
We remember him not only with sadness, but with gratitude.
Gratitude for his life, his friendship, his guidance and the lasting legacy he left behind.
From somewhere above the sky, we like to imagine that Fr. John is still watching over us, seeing the journey we continue to make and the lives we touch along the way.
His journey ended, but his footprints remain.
We will keep following those footprints.
We will keep carrying his vision forward.
We will keep believing in the people and communities he cared for.
